October 2010

October was full of Fall-ish fun. Drives up the canyons, walks outside, cool breezes. Lot's of photographing. We went on a road trip up to the cabin. Did some hiking. Did a lot of working out and eating healthier. I even lost a bit of weight.

Months like these make me sad that winter is right around the corner. Hello November, I hope you bring lot's of yummy food, and maybe not a ton of snow.

So, I have been here, there, and everywhere this week. I have been trying to keep up with this lil' online journal of mine, but I have been a busy lil' bee too.

I've been photographing..

Working out..

(Kristen and me after our trip around the Vita Course in Murray.)

And prepping for Halloween..

More on all of this later. Excuse me if I pop in and out next week. Happy Weekend!

Halloween Nostalgia

(That's me on the left with the cheeks.)

Last night I was at my parents house working out. Afterwards my brothers kids paraded around in their Halloween costumes. They were darling as a leopard, Cleopatra, and even Frankie's kid? Whatever that is. It got me thinking about when I was younger and so excited to dress up.

My mom always found or made me the best costumes. One year she made me a Rainbow Brite costume that was the envy of all the kids my age. (I wish I had a picture.)

This year I'm not sure if I will dress up, maybe just paint my face. There's just something about Halloween that seems to be for kids. As an adult it's fun, but never as memorable as when I was a kid running from house to house collecting candy, and parading around at school in my costume.

This year I am rededicating myself to Halloween. I'm determined to make it fun and memorable. I've already made finger cookies and delivered them to unsuspecting people. But more on that later. I love this time of year. It's the perfect weather outside, and a dollop of excitement in the air.

I'm just sad that before we know it, it will be Thanksgiving, Christmas, and then the New Year. Time sure has sped up since I've been an adult. And next year I will be 28. 28? When did that happen? Shouldn't I be finished with school, have kids, and driving them to soccer by now? Oh to go back to the "Rainbow Brite dress up days". Well back to work, and being an adult.

Move over Beyonce

zumba (zoom-ba)

A fast paced Latin dance exercise class. (Beware if you are an uncoordinated white girl.)

I actually had a lot of fun. It was a quick hour of exercise that was an awesome workout. But if you were to spy on the class, I would stick out like a sore thumb. I just don't get how those Latina women can move their hips, their arms, their legs, and hands all at the same time. They make it look so easy. And I make it look so.. well nerdy. That's okay I had fun trying to channel my inner Shakira.

But I think it goes without saying that it's not one of those things I can chalk up to being naturally good at. Thanks to Kristen and Aubrie for coming with me and not trying to scoot away as I did my hip shakin'. The next time we do it, let's try to not schedule it so early in the a.m. I think that's why I didn't do as well. ;) (yeah right)

Ashton through the eye's of Miss Holga

This roll of film was wackadoodle. There were all sorts of misfires, and odd things happening. You can also see that as the day progressed the weather changed to overcast and darker. Oh well, that's the fun of shooting with a toy camera. Thanks to Celeste who shot the one of the BobCat. (Celeste, both of the shots turned out, I told you wrong.) The rest of the shots from this roll were taken a while ago up in the canyons. I will share them with you later in the month closer to Halloween. Yes, just another reason to not take Holga's at sunset. Happy Friday everyone.

Color v. B&W

I like color. My eyes are drawn to it. Especially up at the cabin where there is plenty of it. But occasionally black and white is the only way to go to make an image pop. And while I usually tend to like black and white photography for people. (Don't you think it just makes you look better sometimes?) While at the cabin I went in search for some good black and white images.

I like when I'm shooting with B&W in mind, I am looking for the shapes and textures rather than just some pretty color. With all this being said, I have some Holga's I am going to share tomorrow that are vibrant and very much in color.

Silver Lake Hike

This trip to the cabin we decided to do a four mile hike around Silver Lake in Harriman State Park. It was gorgeous. The clarity of the lake was amazing. You could see straight to the bottom.

I also loved how you could see the reflection of the clouds and trees in the water.

I was impressed by Celeste's kids. I don't think I would have hiked that far when I was their age. It was so fun to have them along. Six year old Hailey trail blazed the whole time. She had her walking stick, and would occasionally stop along the trail to provide us with arrows and "clues" on which way to go. Cody kept trying to dodge the camera, and Emily talked Bob into dragging her with a "dragon stick" or was that a draggin' stick?

The scenery was gorgeous. I loved seeing the bright colors and the hard and soft textures.

Towards the end of the hike we passed through a farm area. There's something really pretty about farm life to me.

After the hike we had worked up quite an appetite, so we treated ourselves to a yummy dinner and festive cake for dessert.

We joked with Tom and Celeste that they weren't exactly trying to deter us from coming back. We love it there. Life is good at the cabin.

Roadtrip to Ashton

After work on Friday we headed up to the cabin in Ashton, and on the way back we left around six. Which means that we were driving in the dark there and back. But it also means we got to see some awesome sunsets.

And some pretty nighttime scenery.

Driving is never too hard when I have Bob with me. It was nice to just hang out and laugh on the way there and back. He even put up with me trying to take pictures of us on the road. Well kind of. Please notice the bottom left picture.

Cabin Weekend

Spent the weekend up at Tom and Celeste's cabin again. Slept in, hiked, ate yummy food, played games, relaxed, and spent time with loved ones. Wish every weekend could be like that. More pictures to come. I of course took a bunch. Happy Monday, and Happy Columbus Day!
