It's Finally Here

We have been lucky to make traveling a tradition in our marriage. We try to always get away for our anniversary, especially since this time of year the weather is usually great wherever you go. August 1st we celebrate our third wedding anniversary. Does this mean I love Bob three times as much this year? We're off to San Diego, will be back to blogging next week. (We'll tell Shamu hello for everyone.)

Corner View (Best Kept Secret)

I decided to go with Cucina Deli in the Avenues downtown.

I chose this place for a couple of reasons.

1- It's in my neighborhood

and

2- It may not be a secret per se. But I know a lot of people who have never been that live here. I also know whenever I take someone there, they never leave dissatisfied.

The food is fabulous. I'm not sure if I have had better sandwiches in Utah. (Don't forget the cranberry mayo.) I never go there without getting some caprese or tortellini. Don't even get me started on their plain chocolate nut brownies.

If you are ever in Salt Lake City, this is a must try. For more secret telling..

A short quiz for your Tuesday..

While surfing in San Diego this weekend, Caitlin will:

a) never get up on the surf board

c) clumsily hit her head on the surf board (causing, the instructor, her husband, and the entire beach to not only laugh, but wonder if she should be on a surf board instead of safely playing in on the beach with arm floaties.)

d) be eaten by a shark

e) all of the above

{This is what ran through my mind while we booked our surfing lessons.}

Bear Lake '09

For the (Utah) holiday, we decided to wake up early Friday morning and take a drive up to Logan and meet our friends Holli and Mike. Then we all headed up to Bear Lake to play. Oh my word! SO MUCH FUN! Seriously the best time I think I have had up there.

It was overcast, so not an incredible amount of sun, but the water was really warm and the best part was that it was super windy which was causing 3 foot waves with white caps. So it felt like we were swimming in the ocean. We just played in the water and goofed off. It was a blast.

After we were finished swimming, we went and got Bear Lake's famous raspberry shakes. You haven't had a raspberry shake until you have been to Bear Lake. Amazing.

Then we had dinner and drove to see the fireworks in Logan.

It was a bit of a struggle to get us all in a picture while we were watching fireworks, and the boys weren't exactly cooperating.. especially my husband. So this is what we ended up with. Yes, I know it's a real winner.

We got home by midnight. We packed as much as we could into that holiday. Then rested on Saturday. Followed by a yummy bbq with my parents on Sunday. A lovely weekend. And what makes this week better, is I only work three days! Happy Monday!

Well pin a rose on your nose. {What does this saying even mean?..Wouldn't that hurt?}

Bob and I have been having a spot of bad luck lately... with our noses.

On the 4th of July we went to Sugar House park and a couple of guys/idiots were playing football in the dark and amongst a ton of people. We were walking past, as one guy threw the football, just as Bob was looking up. It connected perfectly with Bob's nose. It didn't bleed, but gave him a major bruise.

Then a couple of nights ago I went to tell Bob good night in the dark and give him a kiss. And I accidentally hit his nose hard with my head. Bob's nose bled off and on the whole next day.

Then at work yesterday I was carrying a huge box and didn't see as I walked into the wall. The package came up and slammed my nose with the force of a boxer. Now, Bob and I have huge bruises on our noses, and are afraid to get close enough to kiss.

Do you think this is the universes way of telling us to get nose jobs? The weekend starts for me today at 5:30. See you all back here on Monday. Happy weekend!

Corner View: Salt Lake City, Utah

The corner view theme this week is 7:45 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). The idea was to snap one picture of what we were doing at 7:45 all weekend long. (I had to set an alarm on my phone, but I did it, every day at 7:45.. now if it had been 7:45 a.m. we might have had a problem.)

Friday night I just wanted to relax and not do much of anything. So I talked my husband into taking a break from the homework to watch a movie with me. He was a little annoyed that I wanted to take a picture in the middle of it, so that's why it's so grainy, I didn't use a flash.

Saturday at 7:45 we were driving to meet our friends. The sky was beautiful.

Sunday I sat out on our porch swing and read. A lovely weekend. Thanks Jane for such a fun corner view this week. To see how others spent their weekend..

She torched Neil?.. You're right, she is a monster.

This man has magical sultry powers.. not to mention a glorious mane of hair.. (on his head and chest.)

You may be thinking, "Wait, is that Neil Diamond?".. "No, it's not just Neil Diamond.. it's pop music's most enduring and successful singer-songwriter. Oh and one more thing. He's magic.

Story..

When Bob and I were first dating we went on a group date with about three other couples. One of the couples was on a blind date. We decided to come back to my parents house after the date to watch Fever Pitch. There's a scene in it when Neil Diamond's song Sweet Caroline starts playing, and since it's a movie about baseball, they play it and the whole stadium starts singing.

Here's where the charismatic words of Mr. Diamond came into effect. The song starts. Eric starts singing all of the words.. "Where it began.." Then a few more of us start singing.. "Hands, touching hands.." We couldn't help it. Soon the entire room was boisterously singing "SWEET CAROLINE!! DUN DUN DUN!" (It's just one of those songs you can't help but sing!)

Okay, when I say the whole room was singing, that's a fib. There was one guy (that was on the blind date) that was looking around in disbelief. Was this really happening? Seriously? Neil Diamond? Apparently the "magic" wasn't working on him.

We just looked over at him and simply stated, "You can't fight Neil. Put on your heart light." (He maybe never hung out with us again.)

Random July Weekend

This weekend we decided we needed to keep it low key. Bob had a ton of homework, and I needed some rest. (I haven't been sleeping much since the weather has taken on a furnace like quality.) So we just chillaxed. I took my niece Jessica out to lunch for her birthday on Saturday.

Then that night Jessica, Gavin, and London invited us to go to fireworks with them. (Who knew Draper Days was such a big deal?) It was nice to just snack on treats and enjoy the night watching fireworks and watching London watch the fireworks. It was darling seeing her get so excited about them.

After the fireworks, we said goodbye to the Swenson's and went to the drive-in movies. There's something about drive-in's in the summer that makes me incredibly happy.

It's a short work week for me because of the holiday, which makes this a very happy Monday!

Four Corners

As I was shutting off all the lights in my little elf apartment last night. My eye caught some corners of my place that I absolutely delight in. You see, my mini apartment doesn't have a lot of space. Sometimes it feels a little too small. But last night I wandered around and snapped some pictures of my favorite little corners. The one's that help make my tiny space into a tiny home.

** Please take note of a certain little tree in the corner. I guess we know who won that battle.

Svay Holga's

You know those beautiful people that you see walking around? The one's that pass by, and you can't believe their genetics and what's more, they make a baby that can only be explained as a doll? I took some pictures of those people on Sunday with my Holga. No doubt these photos are gorgeous because they were in them.

Finn's 6th Birthday Party

This weekend we celebrated my nephew's birthday. It was a swim party. I got a bit burned, but it was so fun to see all the kids running around having fun. Even the big kids (cough, cough Bob).

My Grandaddy watched the fun from the sidelines, but I noticed him being a bit mischievous with those water balloons.

My mom is known for her famous cakes. So when she asked what Finn wanted for his birthday he told her a dolphin. I really don't know how she does it. (And the best part is they always taste awesome too.)

** On a side note, I was incredibly flattered when I came to work today and saw my blog full of some of the sweetest comments/compliments ever. Thank you so much for being so nice.. I hope it didn't seem like I was fishing for compliments. I guess it's easier for other's to see what makes you special..but I think it's safe to say, my biggest talent is surrounding myself with such great people.**

The talent gene skipped a kid.

(I'm the little one in the red dress not paying attention..)

You know how some people are born with talents? They can just pick anything up and do it nearly to perfection? I'm married to one. Bob can sit at a piano, make up a song and sing it all in about 15 minutes and it sounds like it took him years to perfect. My dad and brother can pick up any sport you throw at them and look like serious athletes. My sister can make an entire room laugh until every one's stomachs hurt. And my mom? Oh please.. she can sketch things that look like a work of art. She can see a pattern and sew it, and by the time it's finished it looks better than the original. And let's not even talk about how good of a cook she is.

Well I am a tad disgruntled. Let's just say the genes skipped me. I have yet to find the one thing I am spectacular at. I'm okay at things, but I can't think of a single talent that I excel at. I'm beginning to think that I'm the one people are talking about that has a sweet spirit. And has special talents.

I "dance" in my kitchen from time to time (it's not the most graceful thing) and I mean I sing in the shower.. but let's be honest.. I'm tone deaf. Long boarding? If my last two falls were any indication.. I think it's safe to say that ain't it. I guess I have to keep looking for it.

I just know one day I am going to pick up a baton and be the best dang baton twirler out there. I'm talkin' Olympic level.
