July 2010

July already? Well we're more than half way through the year. This month has been warm. More than that..hot. I have to say July has been fun. We've celebrated two holidays, had plenty of yummy food. And Bob competed in another BBQ competition.

We've kept up our hiking regimen, and I have gotten back into working out. Lost a little weight (that I am sure to gain back after our anniversary trip this weekend!) We've made trips to the pool, hung out with friends and family and seen more movies than I think I usually see in a year.

What can I say? It's been a typical summer month, and I can't wait for a couple more before it turns cold again. I'm always happy to see August though, it's one of my very favorite months. Can't wait to celebrate 4 years of marriage with my best friend, and head out on a fun road trip adventure.

Bye July, I hope next year is as chalk full of fun, but for now I am ready for another August.

Our Roadtrip to Boise (Sunday)

Sunday we were planning on driving back early, but then decided since Bob's truck didn't have air conditioning that we would wait until later in the day. (Especially since Sunday had record highs of 104 degrees.)

So my parents decided to stay back with us, and graciously took us to the movies. We ended up having a movie marathon. The Boise theatre is huge and so nice. So we sat back, munched on popcorn, and watched Salt, Despicable Me, and Knight and Day. (Thanks Mom and Dad!)

Then we headed home, and might have gotten home pretty late, but we had an awesome time. And that was our whirl wind Boise trip.

Next up, our anniversary trip to Sandpoint. Man, I love Summer!

Our Roadtrip to Boise (Saturday)

Saturday we went to the music festival and bbq competition. It was at Ann Morrison Park. Holy cow that park is huge. My parents even provided us all with shirts to root on the team.

The kids fed the ducks, jousted and played in the bounce houses, and even got their faces painted.

We cooled off in the river that runs through the park, and walked around to see all of the vendors.

Oh, and did I mention we ate? We ate a lot. The team won a ribbon in ribs this competition, and let me tell you they were good.

So good that even the kids were devouring them.

The team did a great job, they got minimal sleep and cooked in really intense heat. I don't know how they do it. I have a feeling it's a mix of adrenaline, and caffeine.

What was cool about this competition was that Harry Soo, a pretty famous bbq champion from t.v. was cooking along side of the team and giving them tips. He and his team couldn't be nicer, and they even let us try their yummy food.

After the competition we went back to the hotel to eat pizza and swim.

Our Roadtrip to Boise (Friday)

Friday morning we started out by getting breakfast at Mini's Cupcakes. Have you tried Mini's? Everything is good there. Everything.

Then we hit the road. Bob had to go up a day early to help set up, so I drove up with my parents, and my brother's family followed in the car behind.

My brother wanted to stop along the way to rock climb in the City of Rocks. It so reminded me of the movie Tremors. So we stopped in town to find a map of the climbs and got in touch with our pioneer roots in honor of Pioneer Day. :)

Then we climbed.

Even the kids did a little bouldering.

Since I was holding the camera, there are no shots of me climbing. But let me tell you, I was sore the next day, so I know it happened. But here is proof I was there.

We got into Boise late that night just in time for the competition and music festival that was going to be happening the next morning. But more on that tomorrow.

Back from Boise..

Just got back from our whirl wind trip. We rock climbed, ate yummy food, saw three movies, and drove.. a lot. Did I mention the weather was in the 100's? I'm happy to be home in my air conditioned apartment. More about the trip tomorrow. We got back at 3 a.m. this morning, so I think a twelve hour nap is in order.

(Congrats to the team who won 5th place in ribs, and 13th overall. Which is fabulous, since there were so many top rated teams there.)

My weekend is starting early this week.

We will be celebrating Pioneer Day in Idaho this year. We're off to enjoy the Boise Music Festival, and BBQ competition. Happy weekend, and 24th!

Mill B to Canyon Overlook

Saturday we tackled another hike. I think this makes eight Saturday hikes so far. We did Mill B to Canyon Overlook. It was one of the prettiest hikes I think we've done. It was so green the whole way up, and then at the top there were stunning views. It was a good workout too.

(You can see how high up we were. Look how tiny those cars are.)
Thanks to Eric who picked such a good hike, and for everyone who came and made it fun.

It was a long, harder hike, but we made it.

Except for Ella, she zonked out on the way down. That's okay, I think I would have done the same thing if I was being carried in a backpack.

Farewell to Dallas.

So Saturday night we got together with the Svay's to say goodbye to our dear friend Dallas. He is moving to New York, so he threw a big party at a warehouse downtown. We're excited for him, but are going to miss him like crazy.

After we left the party, we walked over to the Gateway to get a little something to eat and to go see Inception (have I mentioned I loved that movie?) On the walk over we snapped a couple funny pictures and goofed off a bit. Thanks A & D for a fun night! And good luck to Dallas!

Summery Saturday

Our Saturday was chalk full of fun. We hiked, we swam, we ate really yummy food, and we saw one of the best movies I have seen in a long time. Just your typical Summer fun. Here are a couple of snapshots from the pool.. (courtesy of Bob)

Ella thought we were all crazy..

..and judging by this video, I think she might be right. (Leave it to Eric to have a camera handy for this. Hey, at least Bob and I have fun right?)
