Souvenir

If I were going to send a treat that's native to Utah to an out of towner. I think I would choose salt water taffy. I had forgotten it was a local item, until Bonnie's post. What's not to like? Yummy, chewy, stretchy goodness. Do you think they just grab some taffy and toss it in the Great Salt Lake and voila..you get that colorful little treat?

I would find a little square tin, place a small cellophane bag filled with these tasty treats, and tie it all up with a bit of twine. I would wrap it in brown paper and with a black magic marker write "Greetings from Utah" on it.

I would probably fill it with my favorite..strawberry swirl. (And give instructions to give it a big stretch and twirl it around your finger before you devour it.) I also like the spearmint swirl.. I think it's the swirl I like.. I have a sneaking suspicion that the swirl makes it taste better.

They look so taste.
It is difficult to find out what one should buy as a souvenir in one´s own city.

Swirling greetings from Utah in a square tin sound good to me, I'm for sure an out of towner.
(don't forget the twine!)

I looooove Salt Water Taffy !! I haven't had it in years. I'll never forget the first time I had it ... we were on a road trip. I was a kid. We'd be to a Ho Jo's to eat. I'm not sure where he got it ... the gas station next door ? but Dad came back the car with a box of Salt Water Taffy ... it was love at first bite !!

I'm from the east coast, and I never knew that salt water taffy was a utah thing! I've always just associated it with the shore + the ocean. that's a neat fact to know! :)

My question is, do they really use salt water in the making of it?

And my favorite is pear. And neopolitan.

I love salt water taffy ..... I love the rare candy shop that has somebody making it in the front window ..... proof that it's something you could NEVER replicate at home. My favorite? Peppermint swirl :)

Love the plain white vanilla ones. Mmmmm. I just love taffy period.

We went to New Jersey (pre-kids) and walked along the boardwalk. Bought a big, fat bag of fresh taffy. It was the best. I think I'll have to head out and buy some now...Utah style.

Call me crazy, but I hate Salt Water Taffy. When I was little and I went to the bank with my mom I was always so disappointed when that was the treat the teller gave you.
