Corner View (Staple Foods)

I had someone ask me this weekend what this corner view was all about. Just in case you didn't completely understand.. Every Wednesday I take part in a thing called Corner View. Jane (who lives in Spain) is the one who created it. She thought it would be cool to see every one's corner of the world. So each week there is a theme and people from all over the world contribute by posting pictures and telling stories.

This week the theme is "staple foods". I'm sure in Italy a staple food is pasta, here in Utah I'm not entirely sure what our staple food would be. So I thought I would post what a staple food for me is. I chose..

(that's also the computer i use to travel around and visit the other corner views.. you can see i always have a diet coke nearby.)

Some would say this is the "coffee" of Utah. I think it ties in nicely with the corner view, because in my corner of the world this is a very very popular drink.. oh wait.. a drink isn't exactly a staple food. So I guess a staple food in Utah might be a burger and fries.. (so glamorous) and don't forget the fry-sauce.. I've heard that it's usually only served in Utah. (fry-sauce = mayonnaise and ketchup mixed together.. sometimes they sneak pickles in there.. I prefer it without though.)

To see other see other "stomach staples" visit..

I hadn't heard of fry sauce before but it sounds delicious. Diet Coke is a staple for me too.

Coming from a country with many well rooted culinary traditions (and shapes and sauces for pasta) it's interesting to me that you couldn't quite pin down the staple foods in your state! I think I'd take the pickles in my fry-sauce!

Perfect post!!! and mine seems so healthy but not true. I should have put on there nutella and champagne!

I don't usually allow soda (or "Pop" as we sometimes call it) into our house.. but occasionally my hubby sneaks a diet Coke in. :)

I'm a diet Mt. Dew gal. I'm sure I'm going to be the crazy lady in the nursing home someday demanding my daily diet Mt. Dew!

I never heard of fry sauce, but would like to try it. Sounds easy enough to make. xoxo

I think diet coke counts as a staple food. I think it was all I lived on when I was around 19 or 20.
My oldest daughter even had a teacher once who told the class, the only reason she had gone into teaching, was so she could drink diet coke all day (she always had an open can on her desk).

I'd say you nailed Utah food right on the head! I love fry sauce with pickles...actually whatever Crown/Astro/Apollo Burger puts in their fry sauce is what I love!

oh how I love my diet coke! mm.. one of my favorite things is when you take that first gulp of a freshly opened 20oz and you get that cold fizzy rush to your brain... Does this sound like a problem to you?-- :) PS I work with quite a few juvenile girls from Utah and they do rant and rave about the "fry Sauce"... definitely not a big deal here in Iowa although some do it. :)

Coke is it! (Even though i prefer the original)

i loved that diet coke! and i got SUCH a charge out of otli's comment... what other cultures must think of our hamburgers and our fries... but they look good to me!

Ida/FarEastLogbook said...

I just got a major burger craving!!! Mayo and ketchup mixed together is so odd....haha. Hmm, come to think about it you mix it on the fries anyway so I guess it'll go a lot faster eating it that way -only one dip instead of two ;-)

Bonnie said...

great post ! but for me ... bring on the pickles ! the more the better !!

Vanessa/NessieNoodle said...

Ha! I make my own fry sauce and didn't know anyone else was into it.
