The talent gene skipped a kid.

(I'm the little one in the red dress not paying attention..)

You know how some people are born with talents? They can just pick anything up and do it nearly to perfection? I'm married to one. Bob can sit at a piano, make up a song and sing it all in about 15 minutes and it sounds like it took him years to perfect. My dad and brother can pick up any sport you throw at them and look like serious athletes. My sister can make an entire room laugh until every one's stomachs hurt. And my mom? Oh please.. she can sketch things that look like a work of art. She can see a pattern and sew it, and by the time it's finished it looks better than the original. And let's not even talk about how good of a cook she is.

Well I am a tad disgruntled. Let's just say the genes skipped me. I have yet to find the one thing I am spectacular at. I'm okay at things, but I can't think of a single talent that I excel at. I'm beginning to think that I'm the one people are talking about that has a sweet spirit. And has special talents.

I "dance" in my kitchen from time to time (it's not the most graceful thing) and I mean I sing in the shower.. but let's be honest.. I'm tone deaf. Long boarding? If my last two falls were any indication.. I think it's safe to say that ain't it. I guess I have to keep looking for it.

I just know one day I am going to pick up a baton and be the best dang baton twirler out there. I'm talkin' Olympic level.

Ha ha ha!!! I feel the same way! But, I think you are very talented. You definitely excel at being a friend! You are so thoughtful and remember everything! The talent gene definitely didn't skip you. And, you make a mean cake.

Well, to tell you the truth, I disagree with this post! You are amazing at photography, you were even in an art show if you remember, and I'm with Jess on the friendship thing. There is NO other friend that I have ever had that is so on top of friendships. You are thoughtful and take prodigious care of each of your friends and we are truly lucky to have you in our lives. Just so you know. :)

And seriously, I think you are so funny !! AND ... from reading the comments above, I think your friends have pointed out your most amazing talent ...

I took baton in my younger years, I'll teach you how to knock yourself right in the face. THAT is talent.

Now, I laughed right out loud at your comment about the shark. I think funny is a pretty good talent.

Lies, lies, lies and more lies. If you are not talented then I am for sure not! I would mention your picture takin' skills but that has already been addressed. And your freindship skills...but that too has been taken care of. And you can bake fairly well as well. And the list goes on and on but its late and you know how I get.

I had to laugh at Melissa's comment. I, too, can teach you how to whack yourself in the face. Or better yet how to break your nose! Yes, thank you very much, it takes a lot of talent for that one! You are amazing! I have felt much the same my whole life. My older sister was always better at everything!! It happened a couple years ago... I decided to stop looking for what I could be best at and just started looking for what I could have fun doing. I know I'm not the best card maker/scrapbooker but oh well! I sure am having fun!

BTW- the menu at our TGI Friday's is the same with a few gross kebab additions, but most of the food doesn't taste the same. My kids tried to order pizza and the waitress wouldn't let them order it because she said it wasn't good. Weird, huh?

Humor, and a touch of self irony are the greatest of talents!

While you do have a sweet spirit (translation:the best of friends, honest, kind, great listener, very trustworthy - NOT the other definition) I must debate withyou on a few points. You are very talented in all the areas mentioned. Plus you're a mean bowler, you have amazing design skills, and you just have an eye for what looks good (your apartment is so cute, your outfits are always darling, your photography skills put me to shame), and most of all I have always admired the way you're able to express yourself and stand up for yourself - you're great at doing that without "crossing the line" and looking like a crazy person. (Remember Brookstone??) And you make the meanest brownies around - love them!

Second... You are extremely talented! You blog is so darn cute and clever!! And, don't get me started on your photography!! Ok, I'll get started! IT'S FREAKING FANTASTIC!! Just look at the graduation pics you took if you are questioning yourself!

Can't wait to see more of your awesome talents!!

Happy Day, Caitlin!

I don't know what prompted this post Caitlin but it's so not true. The part about you being skipped in the gene talent. no way. Your pictures on your blog tell me you are a talented photographer.
Don't sell yourself short.
