Goo{ber}

(Bonnie and Brenda pretending to be Miss America's at my wedding reception. I thought this might give you a good visual for the story below.)

Do you ever have those moments where you think someone is going to say something, and they don't, but you still respond? Case in point..

Caitlin: (On the phone with a customer) "Hi, how are you?"

Customer: "Good, I need a price for something."

Caitlin: (Thinking they were going to ask how I was, went to say: "Good thanks!") and it came out "Gooo.."(Goo.. really?)

**awkward silence**

(At this point I don't know how to recover, so I weakly say..) "Goo..ood, yes, sure."

Or do you ever have one of those times when someone is waving and you think they're waving at you, but it's really someone behind you? And you try to pretend you were just fixing your hair or waving to the person behind them.. and they always know and give you that face like you are some weirdo? Yeah those two things happened to me in the same day. (Eh, it makes me want to cringe.)

So just imagine me wandering around waving and saying "goo".. does this remind you of a handicapped person? I thought so.

Unfortunately, I know exactly what you mean! I do this at least once a day at work. I guess it comes with customer service territory, also its probably because we think people are going to be polite (since that is what most people do) by returning the "how are you" question, but there are always those few who are too caught up in their thoughts to return pleasantries. Too bad it makes us look so silly....

i have a terrible habit of saying "You too!" after someone says "Have a good night" or "Have a great day!" but it totally back fires when they say, "Enjoy your meal!" and I say "You too...umm...i mean...when you eat a meal, you have a good meal too...uhhh..." or when i'm at the store and they say, "enjoy your purchase!"

yeah...it can be quite awkward!

By the way.. I really love that picture - it reminds me of how fabulous your wedding day was. LOVED IT! And I just laughed right out loud in the middle of a very quiet restaurant, by myself... people now think I'm a total goober too. Next time you have one of these days, just start drooling and pointing at the sky. That should add to the ambience!

Goo...Goo Dolls is my favorite band. Now that would have been the perfect reply and really freaked out the customer. I will allow you to use that next time!

I do this all the time. At least the wave part. Saying "Goo" is just plain weird.

It can't happen to me because "goo" doesn't mean anything in French !!!! Joke... just to make you smile today. ; )

I ALWAYS DO IT!! WHY CAN'T EVERYONE JUST BE NICE AND ASK HOW YOU ARE IN RETURN?? THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE IF THAT WOULD HAPPEN!!

GREAT POST!!!!
