A little after Bob and I got married ABBA's song Dancing Queen came on the radio while we were both in the car. I started to sing to it, Bob asked me to repeat the lyrics I had just sung, and then the conversation went something like this..
Cat: "You can dance, you can die, having the time of your life."
Bob: "So just to clarify you think the lyrics are you can dance, you can die?"
Cat: "Yeah, why?"
Bob: "Well I think it's jive."
Cat: "What? I thought that was a saying." "You can die having the time of your life."
Bob: "Yeah I'm pretty sure ABBA wasn't singing about dying."
Cat: "Are you sure about this?"
Bob: "Cait, the whole world is sure about that."
Since I married Bob, he has pointed out I sing most songs with the wrong lyrics. Like maybe Jingle Bells. Don't ask.

I am the same way and Jared makes fun of me too! These boys think they are so smart.
My cute friend from TX loves music, dancing, singing and anything that goes along with all these fun things ... One night (well, more like morning or middle of the night) she was singing at the top of her lungs "Groove is in the HALL" .. Um, pretty sure it's "Grove is in the HEART" ... LOVE messed up lyrics!!!
I do this with lots of sayings and my German husband loves to point out that I am saying them wrong. He calls them Kelleynism's. I love ABBA. I can't help but feel happy when hearing them sing.
LOL!!!!
Adam does this to me all the time. I sometimes like to randomly start singing a line to a song, and he tells me, "I'll give you a dollar if you can tell me what the next line is." haha haters.
P.S. The girls and I like to have ABBA dance parties. ;)
I like your version. I gives the song more depth I think.
Oh that makes me LAUGH!!!
haha! and this is why i love ya!
Ok, I totally love this post. And I totally feel you on this. I am married to the man who listens to any song once and knows all the lyrics. Seriously, sometimes the complicated rap jargon never sounds like words to me... But he knows exactly what they say...
I like your version too... I would like to have the time of my life that is so intense I die (ok, maybe just ALMOST die...)
Your version of things is always better! Less in tune with reality..but better.
Oh great, now I'm going to feel compelled to look up the lyrics to Dancing Queen. I never caught that word before, either. I have an ABBA greatest hits CD that I bought years ago, because my daughter and I had so much fun one day, looking at dresses in a vintage clothing store while dancing to Mama-Mia playing over the store sound system.
Mamma mia ;)
oh we all do that in our family! in fact, we write whole other songs as collaborations on what we THINK the lyrics are.
and, ABBA is a standard in our house. we love MAMA MIA and HONEY HONEY!
